Many soldiers died on the battlefield, but some were actually captured by the enemy.  The fate of over 120,000 US soldiers was being taken as a prisoner of war by the opposing side. In this photograph, some somber German soldiers stand in front of their satisfied American captors. These men were captured on French soil during the Normandy D-Day invasion of 1944. Surprisingly, German captures who were taken to America spoke well of their time in the country. The many captured soldier emigrated to the States after the war ended...
