Very few people knew how deeply Monroe struggled with accepting her lifestyle and appearance before this movie was released.

This 2008 biopic cast Sean Penn to act out the highlights of Harvey Milk's career. Milk was one of the first openly gay politicians in America, and he took office during the 1970s. Milk felt empowered by the counterculture movement in the 1960s to become a politician and activist who fought against the injustices in America.
